TEAM WITH TYPE 1 DIABETES TAKES ON THE LONG RANGE TRAVERSE IN GROS MORNE NATIONAL PARK TO HELP REDEFINE TYPE 1 DIABETES AND LIVE LIFE WITHOUT LIMITS

Connected in Motion (CIM) is an Ontario-based Non-Profit Organization serving adults with Type 1 diabetes whose mission is to use outdoor adventure and sport as a forum for experiential diabetes education.

Grow Morne, NL: Connected in Motion, an Ontario-based non-profit organization that fosters community among people with Type 1 diabetes so that they may inspire one another to live without limits, is heading out to complete the Long Range Traverse in Gros Morne, Newfoundland in an effort to redefine life with Type 1 diabetes. The team consists of 10 members of the Type 1 diabetes community who were selected among dozens of applicants to take on the challenge and help redefine life with Type 1 diabetes. The team is also raising funds to increase access to diabetes education and support programming across the country. The team heads out on Friday August 5, 2016 and will complete the traverse on Wednesday August 10, 2016.

“Our organization is run by people with Type 1 diabetes, for people with Type 1 diabetes” says Jen Hanson, Executive Director of Connected in Motion. “We design our programs based on our own personal experiences, challenges and perspective. Let’s face it; no one wants to spend time in hospitals. Using physical activity, we create fun, social opportunities to learn about managing diabetes in real-life situations, in hands-on ways. We focus on engaging and inspiring people first. The education happens naturally.”

“We are excited to welcome this team together to take on this trek in one of Canada’s most stunning and challenging landscapes.” says Hanson. “Our goal is to create a story that will resonate with others within the Type 1 diabetes community, helping them to realize that Type 1 diabetes is an obstacle that with some hard work and dedication can be overcome, making any dream possible. Each team member is working to raise funds that will support Connected in Motion in bringing more programming to life across the country and around the world.”

Over 300,000 people are currently living with Type 1 diabetes in Canada. Connected in Motion is motivating these individuals to take charge of their health today and in doing so, improving the quality of life for people with diabetes now and tomorrow.

Connected In Motion has been delivering high quality programming to the Type 1 diabetes community for close to 10 years. Connected In Motion’s mission is to foster a community of people living with Type 1 diabetes through peer-based experiential diabetes education, sport and outdoor adventure pursuits so that they may inspire one another to live life without the limits.
